Postdoctoral Fellowships
Dr Wallace Wong completed his PhD studies with his findings published in many peer reviewed sources, a number of significant collaborations and a track record that had attracted competitive grant funding.
After successfully applying for an ASI Fellowship last year, Dr Wong said he now has the resources to direct a small research team and take a leadership role in the development of efficient and cost effective organic solar cells.
“A career in science is challenging and the career path not always clear,” Dr Wong said. “Making the step from working within someone else’s research program to directing your own research enquiry is incredibly difficult. It’s not just about track record and your capacity to make a difference, it’s also about opportunity. This Fellowship allows me focus on my area of research expertise – organic solar cell materials – and take a leadership role in its development and application,” he said.
Dr Wong is part of the Victorian Organic Solar Cell Consortium which aims to develop low cost roll-to-roll printed organic solar cells. As the ASI Fellow in the consortium, the central theme of his research is the development of continuous flow methods for the production of organic solar cell materials.
This approach is new to organic photovoltaics (OPV) research and within the broader Australian materials research area. He is leading the way and providing the impetus to translate latent polymer based technology with demonstrated potential into a large scale technology which will provide cheaper OPVs for consumers.
