The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) started yesterday, with its Board in place and the new Chief Executive, Mr Ivor Frischknecht, to commence in August.

ARENA – which is part of the Australian Government’s Clean Energy Future package – consolidates $3.2 billion in funding to support the research, development and deployment of renewable energy technology in Australia.

It brings together initiatives formerly run by the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy and the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism.

ASI will transition its portfolio and programs to ARENA by 1 January 2013.
