JOIN TEAM AUSTRALIA AT WORLD’S LARGEST SOLAR TECHNOLOGY TRADE FAIR
Austrade, in partnership with the ASI and APVA, is inviting Australian solar companies and organisations to join Team Australia at Intersolar Europe 2012 from 13-15 June in Munich, Germany (Full conference is 11-14 June). The Team Australia initiative provides participants with logistical support and promotion.

ADVANCE INNOVATION PROGRAM LAUNCH EVENTS
In conjunction with the Australian Government – Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research, Advance will launch 50 for the Future Advance Innovation Program in November 2011. Bringing together the who’s who of global Australian innovation, the two half-day sessions will provide inspiration, insights, and actionable advice to Australia’s brightest entrepreneurs.
Open to start-ups, investors, academics, researchers, and executives from all disciplines, each session will be highly interactive, with an emphasis on practical guidance aimed at helping early-stage businesses plot the path to successful commercialisation. Attendees will have an opportunity to apply for the global Advance Innovation mentor program, which connects start-ups with 50 experienced Australian Silicon Valley based entrepreneurs.
The Innovation Program culminates in 50 for the Future Advance Innovation Summit in Silicon Valley, May 2012.

The NSW Science and Engineering Awards include 9 $5,000 category awards and the overall $55,000 Scientist of the Year Award. Nomination forms and guidelines at www.business.nsw.gov.au/scienceawards. Application soft copies will be accepted up until 9am Tuesday morning, with original in the mail.

AUSTRALIAN INNOVATION CHALLENGE AWARDS OPEN
Applications are open for the Australian Innovation Challenge, which aims to drive some of Australia’s best ideas to commercialisation or adoption.
The winners of seven professional categories, including minerals and energy, will receive prizes of $5000. The overall winner will receive a further $25,000. An eighth category, Backyard Innovation, is open to the general public and has a $10,000 prize.
The Challenge is run by The Australian in association with Shell and supported by the Commonwealth Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research.
Entries close at midnight (AEST) on Wednesday, September 28, 2011.

ASI SUPPORTED PHD STUDENT ON 1233 ABC NEWCASTLE
ASI supported PhD student Natalie Holmes featured on 1233 ABC Newcastle’s ‘Show us your PhD’ segment. Natalie’s PhD at the University of Newcastle is focused on developing water-based materials for photovoltaic solar cells to deliver highly cost-effective solar energy generation.

US DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY FUNDING ANNOUNCEMENTS
The US DoE have released a number of funding announcements including a Next Generation PV program that consider international collaboration as one of a number of merit criteria. The ASI envisage this will provide US institutions the opportunity to access US funding that will potentially support collaboration with Australian institutions successful in receiving ASI support through the US Australian Solar Energy Collaboration Initiative. The ASI are currently calling for expressions of interest in four foundation project areas.
