The Australian Solar Institute (ASI) is a $150 million commitment by the Australian Government as part of the expanded $5 billion Clean Energy Initiative. The Institute aims to drive collaborative, focused research and development that will have a major impact on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of solar technologies.
The ASI is working in a number of areas that require technical support and is seeking expressions of interest for contract support from suitably qualified individuals. Hours per week will be flexible but it is envisaged that the successful applicant will be required for 30-40 hours per week over March- May 2011. Initially the ASI will offer the successful applicant a 3 month contract.
Short Term Deliverables
- Prepare a report for the ASI Executive team on the status of the ASI’s R&D portfolio in the context of IEA and other internationally acknowledged technology roadmaps;
- Conduct a technical gap analysis of the ASI R&D portfolio to inform future funding rounds;
- Develop technical KPIs to facilitate measurement of the ASI portfolio’s ability to lower future cost of solar electricity generation; and
- Develop technical material to assist the ASI disseminate information on its R&D portfolio and other tasks as required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Technical qualifications in a relevant engineering or scientific field with proven understanding of the fundamental aspects of PV and CST technologies.
- At least 5 years in energy markets with a hands on background in the development of solar technologies and the integration of technology into electrical networks.
- Excellent analytical skills with experience in linking qualitative and quantitative factors to provide advice to management teams on technology development.
- Excellent communication skills in report and presentation writing with a proven portfolio of MS Office material to demonstrate competence.
Work Location and Contract Terms
- The ASI office is based at the CSIRO Energy Centre in Newcastle. The successful applicant will be willing to work in Newcastle as required. Remote working with regular visits to Newcastle is acceptable.
- The successful applicant will sign a short term contract with the ASI that will include commitments to ensure information confidentiality and assurances that no conflicts of interest exist.
- The successful applicant will be paid a market competitive hourly rate. All material including intellectual property generated during the term of the contract will be the property of the ASI.
