About ASI
The Australian Government established the Australian Solar Institute (ASI) in 2009 to keep Australia at the forefront of solar innovation by investing in activities that aimed to reduce the cost, and increase the competitiveness of, photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies.
Our Vision: For Australian solar R&D to contribute significantly to widespread and sustainable deployment of solar energy applications.
Our Mission: Proactively foster and support excellent R&D in Australia to accelerate commercial deployment of photovoltaic and concentrating solar power technologies, which will increase the competitiveness of solar energy.
In three and a half years, ASI developed a portfolio approaching $450 million in value from the initial $150 million provided by the Australian Government. This portfolio supports over 350 solar researchers across more than 120 projects. This includes the ASI Skills Development Program, which supports 26 PhD Scholars and 34 Postdoctoral Fellows at research institutions across Australia.
In June 2011, the Australian Government announced that a number of renewable energy programs, projects and initiatives administered by the Commonwealth, including ASI, would transfer to the $3.2 billion Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). Governance and management of ASI’s investment portfolio, activities and partnerships transitioned to ARENA on 31 December 2012.
This website will help you find information on ASI funded projects now managed by ARENA. In time, the information on this site will transfer to the ARENA website.
